The Exigent Math Program empowers CPS students to learn and grow through learning advanced math

Exigent helps students succeed in advanced math skills and grow in a community of mathematicians.

Exigent originally started out as a small math program for students at Austin High School to help students prepare for advanced math classes. It continued to grow as math teachers from different schools throughout the Chicago area recruited students. Exigent equips students to thrive in challenging mathematics by creating a welcoming and fun environment––an environment where students aren’t afraid to ask questions or to grow in their own ways. Exigent educators care about each student individually and want to see them all succeed. Donate to help provide these students with resources to support equitable access to advanced mathematics.

Your donation will support student stipends for the Exigent program. For many Exigent scholars summer employment is not optional - it's an expectation to help support themselves or their families. Choosing to do advanced mathematics for 5 weeks over the summer has significant financial cost. For the last 5 years, all high school students who have successfully completed the Exigent summer program have earned stipends thanks to the many donations of supporters like you.

A gift of $200 empowers 1 student to participate in 1 week of Exigent programming and $1000 makes it possible for a student to experience the entire 5-week program.

Exigent Math teachers recruit promising/hungry math students from their local schools, bring them to Exigent for a summer of intense math stretch & collaboration, and then return to their local schools to build advanced math programs together in their respective buildings.
Building advanced math programming requires educators and students who are ready and excited to engage in this kind of work. Exigent helps build the programs by building the people for the program - students and teachers alike.
